wall hangings in hand embroidery

February,7 2010

I like the tree of life its a universal concept in all tribes that i have met so far .

I choose these wall hangings and agree to what they have to say  “the tree of life is always full, and brings lot of prosperity and luck” i therefore choose to run this theme and keep a small collection at my studio of these wall hangings in pakko embroidery from kutch gujarat.pakko literally means solid, this embroidery is done by the sodha ,rajput &meghwar communities.they motifs are very similar to the ahir but slightly more geometric.
The out line is done with a square dense stitch and the filling is done with a buttonhole stitch which gives it a raised appearance.
Commonly used motifs are peacocks, parrots, scorpions, elephants, milkmaids and flowers, done in a geometric fashion. There is also an ample use of mirrors in this embroidery.
